• This package includes the following: 1) Resource Guide (stand-alone doc viewer for “Using Japanese on Your Mac: a resource guide”), 2) Appnedix A (two PICT files), and 3) Read Me First (this document).
• This resource guide provides you with adequate information to make informed decisions when you want to use the Japanese language on the Apple Macintosh computer (Mac). Topics covered in this guide include hardware requirements, available software for word processing, communications, and Japanese language learning, as well as some tips for troubleshooting. These topics take the easy-to-read “Questions & Answers” format. I compiled this guide for my students at Georgetown University, but it should be useful to any Japanese speaker living in North America.
• To print the resource guide, you need Palatino, Avant Garde, and Courier. These three fonts are enough for 99% of the guide except a couple of Japanese phrases (Osaka is used).
• Appendix A of the resource guide has kanji TrueType font samples bundled with KanjiTalk 7. Only this appendix is NOT in the stand-alone document viewer. It is included as two PICT files. These files are large because they are bit-map PICT files of kanji fonts (300 dpi). So, you don’t need KanjiTalk (Japanese OS) or those fonts to print them. Use any program which can read a PICT file--TeachText will print them too.
